Swedish Grammy-nominated trailblazer Venus Anon shares genre-bending anthem ‘Shoulder’

Swedish-Grammy-nominated trailblazer Venus Anon has made a bold return with the release of her latest genre-bending anthem “Shoulder”. Encapsulating elements of dance, pop and R&B, this irresistible slice of heaven marks the multi-hyphenates first release of 2024. Taking a brief hiatus to home in on her craft, the Swedish newcomer is gearing supporters up for the release of her forthcoming EP ‘Catharsis’.

Written, produced, and recorded by Venus herself, "Shoulder” is a vibrant up-beat single that pays testament to her ingenious creativity. Creating a seamless duality between the sprightly production and weighted narrative, “Shoulder” navigates codependency. Finding the strength to stand her ground, Venus’s sharp penmanship and raw authenticity takes centre stage in this wheel-up worthy release. Sprinkled with a playful cowbell that drives the track forward, the infectious dance-pop beat compliments her silky vocals effortlessly. Setting the tone for her upcoming EP ‘Catharsis’, entirely crafted by Venus, “Shoulder” establishes her as an independent force to be reckoned with.

When asked about the inspiration behind the single, Venus Anon explained, “Shoulder comes from the weight of carrying someone else’s history—a burden that never seems to lighten. It’s about the quiet anger of bearing what isn’t yours, and the unshakeable feeling that some cycles never end.”

Venus Rami, otherwise known as Venus Anon, spent her early years on the Swedish west coast listening to Googoosh and Timbaland. During her teenage years, the trailblazer lived in Stockholm, deeply embedded in the city's underground and queer scene, where every impression of new music became an influence. Contemporary R&B, smart pop productions, 21st century emotional indie and electronic dance – everything is heard as small tracks in the music she now creates as Venus Anon.

In April 2023, she released 'Nocturnal', a seven-track mixtape that really set the tone for her magical world of sound. The release was followed by appearances at festivals around the Nordics, including at Way Out West in Gothenburg, Power Pose Festival in Umeå and By:Larm in Oslo and praised by several critics, including one of today's most prominent music journalists, Anthony Fantano (The Needle Drop).

In the spring of 2024, Venus was nominated for a Grammy in the Soul/RnB category of the year. Gaining co-signs from Adidas and Dr Martens, Venus Anon is gearing up for the release of her forthcoming EP with “Shoulder” posing as the taste of what’s yet to arrive!
