R&B SONGSTRESS MALIYA RETURNS WITH THE POWERFUL HEARTBREAK ANTHEM ‘SAY GOODBYE’
Maylia kicks off a promising year, returning with the contagiously smooth R&B track “Say Goodbye”. Bursting with nostalgic touches and smooth vocals, Luton based vocalist Maliya delivers a fresh new single guaranteed to turn heads. With an undeniably irresistible sound and angelic harmonies seamlessly layered together, “Say Goodbye” is the perfect New Year gift you didn’t know you needed.
Drawing influences from pioneering R&B artists including Summer Walker and Aaliyah, Maliya prides herself to be an all-in-one offering; artist, lyricist and instrumentalist. Infusing her soothingly soulful twist to the British R&B sound, “Say Goodbye” successfully shows off Maliya’s ability to powerfully cement herself as an artist with a distinctive flavour. Delicately layering her voice over the R1ch Music produced single, listeners are pulled in by a pop of strings before being reintroduced to her artistry.
Eloquently pieced together by Maliya herself, “Say Goodbye” is a beautifully written snippet of poetry to restore power into the heartbroken. Laced on her unique guitar melody, which was quickly turned into the beat that it is today in studio with producer R1ch Music, the track is inspired by her recognisable 2000s R&B influences, with the intention of modernising its sound. Tapping sonically into notable flavours by Destiny’s Child and Ciara, “Say Goodbye” paints a sonic vision of what it feels like to experience failed love, and the relatable notions of moving through letting someone go, powered by an infectious foundation.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Maliya says: This song was inspired from a very vulnerable place and came from real time emotions. I find it easiest to write lyrics when I can relate to this feeling that I know a lot of people go through in their lives, and through writing it down I’m able to confront them, move past it and heal. I hope that this song can do the same for others.
Maliya continues to impress her peers and industry takemakers on her rise as an artist. With both community and national radio support pouring in from powerhouses BBC 1xtra (with Remi Burgz), BBC Three Counties and Reprezent Radio to name a few, Maylia is a name that has also caught the attention of reputable publications including GUAP Magazine, GRM Daily, Frontline Magazine, Noctis Magazine, The Floor Magazine, Creative Gen UK, The Pit LDN and many more.
Writing and performing her art from as long as she can remember, Maliya has grown up on the stage - singing in school talent shows, performing dramatic solos in church choirs, while going as far as performing in front of large crowds at open mics and weddings. Maliya’s music effortlessly reflects the anticipated birth of a fresh and exciting artist we are yet to see blossom. And with a string of releases paired with nostalgically tasteful visuals to support, we’re excited to see Maliya continue to leave her mark across the industry in 2024.
