Pixie Cola ‘U Fucked Up’
You know that itchy feeling when you know you shouldn’t – but you just can’t help yourself?
Leeds-based artist Pixie Cola perfectly captures this familiar turmoil in her new single ‘u fucked up’, which channels the story of an ex she just can’t quit. Pixie’s serene vocals contrast a fiery trap beat as she expertly navigates the booming 808s. Left in the messy aftermath of a difficult break, she asks apprehensively: ‘is it ever bothersome to you... that you’re no longer mine?’.
Rapping in his silky-smooth tone, Ellis Esco’s verse spills ink on temptation and turbulent relations over airy keys and rhythmic percussion. He recounts standard reasons and excuses, but in the end must face his own guilt-ridden helplessness: ‘I’m a ticking time bomb and all I’m missing is a lit fuse’.
Pixie Cola lives up to her namesake; like most mythical creatures she must be seen to be believed. The essence of what makes this rising star so special is difficult to condense into writing. Her vocals are flawless, her songwriting heartfelt and confessional, but it is the unique energy present in each track and performance that separates her from the rest.
Finding a home in hip-hop supergroup ‘READYMEAL’, Pixie will often stroll into late night beatmaking sessions to bless the room with her effortless melodies. Sitting flawlessly within genres of hip-hop, R&B and trap; her rhythm and flow show avante-garde, yet the glimmers of 90s/00s nostalgia in her melodies reference her love of artists Erykah Badu, Aaliyah and Lauryn Hill.
Pixie Cola’s debut EP, ‘You’re Living in Pixie World (vol 1)’, showcases the very essence of her sound. Receiving praise for authenticity, depth and warmth, the EP has been acknowledged by publications and playlists alike, with Pixie being named BBC Radio Leeds’ ‘Fresh Face of the Week’ and shortly after collaborating with world leading designer brand, Tommy Hilfiger. Her discography is one filled with soul, honesty and self-assurance.
2023 is looking like a great year for Pixie with her upcoming EP debuting at the end of March. Pixie will also release the highly anticipated album, RM1, with collective READYMEAL. This release will be followed by a UK tour.
