Norwegian artist Sletta, based in London, is is set to release Do What You Want on Wednesday the 17th of January, before the complete EP project comes out Friday the 23rd of February.
Do What You Want is about pursuing your desires and dreams in life, emphasizing self-belief and disregarding external opinions. It ́s an odd length track that starts off somewhat soft and cheesy before shifting into a more melancholic and intense bridge section.
“I often find myself turning to this track for personal guidance in this mentally demanding industry. Despite the lyrics being somewhat cheesy and cliché, they ring true.” - Sletta
Sletta found herself captivated by London's dynamic music scene after relocating in 2015 to study music. Infusing the tranquillity of her homeland with the urban tapestry and diverse influences from London, she adeptly crafts neo-soul and contemporary jazz compositions. Her debut single Take Your Time (2021) earned praise from Andy Collins of Scandinavian Soul for its soothing, intimate vocals.
Her music effortlessly crosses paths with artists like Cleo Sol, Yazmin Lacey, Hiatus Kaiyote, Nubiyan Twist, Marie Dahlstrøm, Lianne La Havas and Gretchen Parlato, infusing it with the resonant vocal inspirations drawn from jazz legends like Carmen McRae and Annie Ross.
The track is released independently.
