Neo-Soul singer, songwriter & artist Noa Lauryn shares new single ‘Always On Time’
Amsterdam-based Neo-Soul singer, songwriter and artist Noa Lauryn shares her new single ‘Always On Time’, out now. It’s the latest single taken from her upcoming EP of the same name, out everywhere on 25th April on Vokall Records.
Inspired by artists like D'Angelo, Jazmin Sullivan and Anderson Paak and Mahalia, Noa is a soulful R&B artist with unapologetic lyrics and feel-good energy. Combining elements of acoustic and electronic sounds with soul, R&B, jazz and pop, Noa creates Neo-Soul for the 2020’s. Her thought-provoking lyrics resonate through her deep and powerful voice, showcasing her natural gift for telling relatable stories through her lyrics.
On her new EP, Noa explores nostalgic love, the expectations of working women, self-love, with an overarching theme of tackling the rush and stress that increasingly dominates our lives.
The EP’s title track ‘Always On Time’ is a plea to take your packed schedule with a pinch of salt. With more upbeat, electronic influences than the rest of the EP, the track was produced by demian, an up and coming name in the house scene. Speaking of the track, Noa says, “I wrote Always On Time kind of as a joke, ‘cause I notoriously struggle with getting places on time. On the track I sing about the utopian situation if I were the type of person that was always on time and wouldn’t it be great for everyone involved:) At the same time, I’m trying to say as a collective we shouldn’t cling so tightly to schedules and care less about those 10 or 15 minutes.”
EP focus track ‘Wasting Time’ celebrates the art of doing nothing. Having struggled with burnout symptoms herself, she hopes to inspire both herself and others to make the most of life rather than just running from one obligation to the next.
The 90’s hip hop inspired track ‘Please don’t make me choose’ acts as a message of female empowerment: “It’s about the female struggle to divide time and attention between family and career. I wanted to express the feeling of eventually having to choose between music and home life under society’s gaze. But sometimes we “want it all” and this song is a call not to judge me or any woman for it.”
And those are just a few highlights on an EP brimming with hope, curiosity and a message to seize the day and enjoy life.
Born and raised in Amsterdam, Noa grew up the daughter of musicians, listening to the greats of (neo)Soul and Hiphop and hanging out at her dad’s gigs from a young age (Manuel Hugas, i.e. Liquid Spirits). She studied Philosophy, but chose the musician’s path herself right after graduating. When she started releasing music in 2021, she got noticed immediately by Dutch national radio and Dutch and Belgian press such as LINDA Magazine (Angelique Houtveen), 3voor12 and Dansende Beren (BE). That year she also participated in the traveling showcase festival Popronde.
Since then, she has been nominated “Best Talent” in the Sublime Awards, has released a single with saxophone legend Candy Dulfer and has played numerous stages throughout the Netherlands, UK and Germany. In 2023, she released her debut album ‘coin collection’ which has reached over 7 million streams and her latest releases are played regularly on Dutch national radio and stations in Germany and the UK.
This release will be celebrated with a listening session in Amsterdam (TBA) and a release tour with her band, The Incredibles, heading to Hilversum, The Hague, Amsterdam & London (TBA).
