The new collection from MOSSI, unveiled on September 25th in Paris, is a true showcase of the brand's style. The collection is built upon the brand's desire to assert and stamp its identity, while also returning to the very essence of what makes the brand unique. The Mossi Spring/Summer 2024 collection features architectural silhouettes that remain refined, with clothing in movement, asymmetry, draping, and pleats that are all specific to MOSSI's contemporary couture. These elements are magnified by sculptural cuts that seem to be molded onto the body, and the brand's typical fabrics, such as Korean cotton poplin, soft wool, denim, and Japanese organza, meet linen and gabardine, presented in colors and exclusive shades like saffron and eggplant. The silhouettes in the collection are a combination of the brand's iconic pieces and new interpretations. The collection features a skirt with pleated and asymmetrical panels that can be worn over pants or wide jeans, a graphic trapeze dress, a shirt with asymmetrical lengths, or even exaggeratedly bloused pants. The brand has also added new interpretations to these key elements, such as a wrap skirt with irregular lines, a top draped around the body, or geometric coats with panels. The collection reflects the very identity of the house, revolving around a style that is sophisticated as streetwear, and architectural as it is deconstructed.
The inspiration for the collection draws from various artistic influences, including the work of South Korean artist Lee Bul, whose architectural, contemporary, and asymmetrical work has nourished the creative vision of the French designer. The pieces draped around the body are reminiscent of traditional saris, while the pleats evoke the work of Issey Miyake and Madame Grès. Mossi Traoré, the winner of the Pierre Bergé Prize of ANDAM 2020, pays regular homage to the fabric sculptor through his creations. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the death of the Parisian designer, the label has integrated the famous “pli Grès” into its collection through three particularly identifiable silhouettes, as a tribute to the heritage of the fashion industry.
