Marla Kether - Revolve

By Ellie Carter

Splashing onto the scene with her effortlessly cool flare, Revolve is the self-produced debut single from bassist, DJ and producer Marla Kether.

It’s heady mix of Marla’s signature velvety bass and percussive deep House beats make for an impactful first release ahead of her hotly anticipated EP dropping in Autumn this year.

London-born to Congolese parents, Marla has cut her musical teeth as a session bassist with Yazmin Lacey, Oscar Jerome, and Obongjayar, and is now taking centre stage to establish herself as a solo artist for the first time since starting to produce music in lockdown 2020.

Currently on tour with Loyle Carner, Marla has been playing some of the biggest venues across the UK and Europe, as well as playing her own solo gigs, live band shows and is tipped for Glastonbury 2023.

Fuelled by a desire to use the time away from touring, Revolve sees Marla stepping into herself and forging her own sonic identity, helped in this case by the hypnotic vocals of Plumm, who was tapped by Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings development programme, Future Bubbler, and powerhouse vocalist in her own right.

The pair bounce off of each other with ease within the mix to create an addictively escapist sound world, with Marla saying ‘it feels so incredible to finally have it out in the world – it’s one of the first tracks I started working on when I began producing back in Lockdown.’

Marla is releasing through Saffron Records, of which she was a member of their 2021 to 2022 Artist Development programme. The Bristol-based label and respected non-profit organisation is making waves in innovative music tech circles, specifically championing women, trans and non-binary artists in the scene.
