LYZA JANE Releases New Visuals “Up Above”
Following serious acclaim across her latest EP Something In The Rye, London-born vocalist Lyza Jane continues the heat with new visuals for “Up Above” – released via BMG.
One of the UK’s most exciting new voices, Lyza Jane’s intoxicating artistry is on full display across “Up Above”; laced with swirling synths and heavy-weight basslines, the sleek and tender instrumental lays the perfect foundation for the rising talent to flaunt her hazy vocals with typical elegance. Her powerful wordplay touches on reflection and otherworldly connections, while the monochrome, VHS video jumps between intimate scenes of Lyza’s past and present in LA – signifying her own growth and spotlighting the key moments that sparked her creative and ethereal journey.
Speaking on the video’s formation, Lyza mentions: “About 4 years ago I found a box of unused Super 8 that had expired in the early 90s. Four of the five rolls I handed in had minimal viable footage, but the fifth turned out to be a perfectly preserved roll of film from around 1995. The clarity in the picture was better than anything I’d ever developed and was on a trip to LA with lots of my Mum, me and the city through Joe’s [Strummer] eyes.”
She adds: “This video is essentially made up of three videos. I noticed that these separate pieces of footage really captured pivotal points in my life, all in a city I’ve loved spending time in since I was small and the theme of growing and staying connected to the past worked for “Up Above”. There’s this place which is somehow frozen in time and each time I return I can sort of retrace these nostalgic steps, and I’m grateful for that.”
Fresh on the scene with her warm, enigmatic EP Something In The Rye, Lyza continues to blend high-calibre textures across R&B and trip-hop, with personal flickers of love and intimacy creating a psychedelic insight into the mind of the rising star. Already earning critical attention from numerous tastemakers including WONDERLAND, CLASH, HYPEBEAST and VIPER, Lyza marks herself as a key name in the UK landscape and beyond.
Lyza Jane has been surrounded by music culture from an early age. Born in London, the rising talent staked her claim at 18 as she became a backing singer for South London’s Alabama 3, continuing to develop her vibrant artistry in their infamous studio above Brixton Jamm.
Following a pivotal performance at Glastonbury, Lyza shifted focus onto producing, recording and writing her own records while quietly earning stripes alongside alt-rap label Blah Records. With a stream of additive releases under her belt incl. Baby Blue Champion EP, the Londoner unleashed her debut album HOUSEBOUND, featuring UK favourites Lee Scott and Black Josh – establishing her presence across the underground. Performing with Cult Of The Damned across the UK from Thekla Bristol to the iconic Fabric London, Lyza would later release her incendiary cut “For Your Eyes Only” in 2023, a rare link-up featuring LA rapper Vel Nine and Birmingham star Jaydonclover.
With an atmospheric, standout body of work and further critical attention from the likes of BBC R1 to NOTION, Lyza Jane is showing the hallmarks of a significant and effective new voice and creative mind coming into her own.
