Loud Ldn co-founder and fast rising artist Coupdekat releases hotly anticipated EP *FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY*
Fast rising, alt pop newcomer Coupdekat releases her hotly anticipated EP *FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY*.
A playful and forward-thinking body of work set across six tracks, *FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY* explores sexuality, identity, adulthood and empowerment. Mixing live and electronic instruments with internet samples, Coupdekat explores the idea of the real world and the virtual world colliding.
Opening the EP, lead track “STUNT GIRL” is laced with Coupdekat’s signature catchy hooks and genre defying production. Delving into the complexities of relationships Coupdekat sings “If only for the night will you pretend that you miss me” in a relatable and heartfelt bid to seek a lover’s reassurance.
Instrumentally combining cyber style synths with breakbeats, the second track from the EP, ‘BABYTEEF’ takes inspiration from The 1975’s album ‘Give Yourself A Try’ – a project that Coupdekat sites as ‘the soundtrack to her teenage years’. The tracks bouncy production lays the perfect foundation for her recognisable honey-eyed vocals as they crescendo into the tracks hook-filled choruses. Single “Superglue” emerges as a bright and dreamy bedroom pop gem, Kat’s effortless tone paints a vivid picture of the frantic highs and emotive lows of young love. On “It’s not you!” playful vocal melodies sit upon futuristic pop production, laced with lo-fi backing vocals and chanting choruses as the young creative continues to solidify her empowering yet tongue-in-cheek style, as she sings “I can’t decide what I like, but it’s not you”, asserting herself and what she wants.
Speaking on the EP Coupdekat says: “I wanted to create an EP that represents me and the world my generation lives in, and all the madness that comes with growing up in it, something that feels immediately familiar on first listen.”
Whilst the emerging talent’s first EP ‘Imaginary Girls’ explored online relationships and social media during the lockdown, *FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY* explores a post-lockdown world as well as the relationship with herself and others outside of her phone. Representing the synergy of the real world and the virtual world the EP combines live and electronic instrumentation along with a plethora of internet samples distilling the new generation of youth culture.
With a deep passion to connect with her fans at live events and being fed up with being invited to play on particularly male-dominated line-ups, Coupdekat wanted to create real and tangible change within the London music scene. Joined by fellow artist Maisi Bourke the pair combined their passion for film, photography, fashion and art into their own live events, creating a new all-female collective called ‘Loud LDN’. Now with over 80 members ‘Loud LDN’ provides a support network for young female solo artists in London; sharing advice, experience and most importantly creating music together. With early support from the likes of NME and the BBC, ‘Loud LDN’ is allowing artists to carve a lane for themselves.
With Coupdekat’s latest singles gaining support from the likes of WONDERLAND, ONES TO WATCH and F-WORD, Spotify support from NEW MUSIC FRIDAY, OUR GENERATION and NEW POP UK and radio support from BBC INTRODUCING LONDON, THREE COUNTRIES and BBC 6 FRESH ON THE NET, the rising artist looks set to continue on her fast-paced trajectory - creating waves and community activations as well as a compelling sound. Coupdekat will be performing live at Kuntstraum (Old Street) on the 15th of June for her EP launch party.
