LA’s pop luminary, Emei confronts her darkest thoughts in captivating single ‘9 Lives’
“A few weeks ago she did a live session for us. This girl has so much personality and you can really hear that coming through in her songs. They’re so eclectic and can hear so many influences. That is why she really stands out to me on this show… ” - Mollie King, BBC Radio 1
“...really catchy and a nice piece of pop music” - Jack Saunders, BBC Radio 1
It’s been quite the year for Emei...a sold-out world tour, a newly announced 37-show 2025 tour, a BBC Radio 1 Live Session with Mollie King, partnerships with Goldhouse Committee, Live Nation, Spotify, Riot Games and more, the LA pop riser has made quite the impression. Gearing supporters up for the highly anticipated ‘RABBITHOLE’ EP, the luminary has returned with her final taste of what’s yet to arrive, “9 LIVES”.
Differing sonically in comparison to previous tracks “RABBITHOLE” and “ALL THESE KIDS”, “9 LIVES” takes an acoustic turn as Emei unravels a more vulnerable side to her artistry. Emphasising the fear that her support system of close friends, family, and colossal fan base will one day give up on Emei and her dreams, she provides an honest insight into her every-day struggles with anxiety. Baring all in this captivating release, Emei’s thought provoking penmanship sits centre stage, as she creates a safe space for listeners, inspiring the younger generation of female talent to embrace their emotions.
When asked about the meaning behind the single Emei explained, “It’s inspired by my frustration with myself and the fear that one day the people who love and support me will give up on cleaning up my messes.”
Emei’s meteoric rise in the music industry is underscored by endorsements from top-tier publications such as Teen Vogue, METAL Magazine, NOTION, DORK, 1883 Magazine, Billboard, The Face, Flaunt, Notion, People Magazine, Wonderland, Ones To Watch, Lyrical Lemonade, and many more. Her genre-defying music has already received international attention having caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 DJs Jack Saunders, Maia Beth, and Mollie King, who have highlighted her songs with multiple “single of the week” selections alongside triple j, SYN, and Joy FM. Attending studio sessions with some of LA’s leading producers including Timfromthehouse (Tove Lo, 5sos, Pussy Riot, Icona Pop, Girli) and Matt Kahane (David Kushner, Renforshort, Cian Ducrot, Jessie Reyez), Emei’s hit “Scatterbrain” was featured in Spotify’s Best Pop Songs of 2023, listed as the “Poppest Record of The Week” by BBC Radio 1, and named one of Spotify's Pop Rising’s “Artists To Watch in 2024.” Securing further playlisting from Spotify in ‘New Music Friday US’
[+Deutschland, Philippines, France, NL, Indonesia, India, Suomi, Malaysia, Thailand, Switzerland, Singapore, BE, Vietnam, Korea, China], ‘teen beats’, ‘Pop Sauce’, ‘young & free’, ‘SALT’, ‘Singled Out’ and ‘New Pop Picks’. Emphasising her surging success, Emei was selected by the Goldhouse Committee in partnership with Live Nation and Spotify for their 2024 programme, and partnered with Riot Games for the Valorant World Championship at the Kia forum to a crowd of 20,000 people.
2024 continues to showcase Emei’s breakthrough status, marked by sold-out shows across her US and EU tours. Starting with 2 intimate sell outs in London in July of 2023, Emei hit the road for her debut HL tour selling out every date. In a matter of months Emei jumped from double headers in 250 cap rooms, to shows at The El Rey Los Angeles, Gramercy Theatre New York and The Garage in London. Her social media presence has surged, with over 500k new followers, bringing her total online reach to over 4 million. Announcing her headline tour ‘RABBITHOLE’, Emei will be jet-setting across the UK, EU and US as of February 2025 for an astounding 37 show extravaganza.
