Karoline Vitto debuts her first MFW show, with size-inclusive models
Karoline Vitto’s collection has been the talk of the town, after debuting her first show during Milan Fashion Week, thanks to support from Dolce and Gabbana. Whilst majority of the runway shows had the usual “sample” size model walking for them, Vitto chose to use women that are on the curvier side.
“The majority of women are not sample size, and we need to be seen”
Over the last few years, it seemed as if there was finally change within the fashion industry, with brands welcoming diversity with open arms. But with the recent resurgence of the Y2K trend, the early 00s nostalgia has circled back into the fashion world, which includes the return of (almost) exclusively ultra-thin models on the runway too. Although we do love the micro skirts, the tiny tops, and the low-rise pants, this is a major decline in regards to body positivity, and how consumers perceive themselves through the lens of the fashion industry.
When asked why she used curvier models, Karoline Vitto states: “It shouldn’t even be a question of why it’s important or not, it should just be. Because the majority of us are not sample size so we should have that representation on the catwalk. I just think it’s how it should be.”
Could this be the start of change in the fashion industry regarding body positivity?
