Inglewood star AMINDI explores love and feminine affirmations across new EP LUVR
One of the most exciting and refreshing young talents emanating from LA right now, Amindi marks a new era with her stunning EP Luvr – via EQT Recordings.
A six-track collection of hazy, trip-hop gems, Luvr offers an artistically raw insight into the ever-evolving mind of Amindi, with psychedelic textures depicting stories of love, intimacy and the feminine affirmations that take over in the pursuit of true passion. Helmed in sessions alongside GRAMMY-nominated creative Rogét Chahayed (Kali Uchis, Travis Scott, Dr. Dre, Doja Cat), each song plays like an intimate mood board for the rising talent to explore her soft and sultry tendencies; a richer, multi-layered sound and expressive approach which underlines a fresh chapter for Amindi as she continues to resonate at the highest levels.
Immediately commanding attention with the bold opening lyrics: “If I ain’t made myself too clear, I want you here with me” on first track “Yes, Indeed”, dream-like synths and piano licks blossom effortlessly as the young talent sets the tone and pleads her desires to an exciting love interest. Transitioning into the funk-infused “Fine With Me", Amindi stays grounded in the chaos of a situationship, with thumping percussive textures guiding her past the complexities and towards self-realisation.
Further highlights come from the vibrant slow jam “Real Likely”, the warm “Passionate”, the intimacy of “Kisses” and the seductive soul scape “Lockjaw” – closing out the EP with powerful vibrations and a new-found confidence that solidifies Amindi’s creative and ethereal growth coming into her own.
Speaking on the EP, Amindi explains: “Luvr accurately paints me as the kind of lover I am—a real one. It was always bound to happen. To the people who inspired these songs and have experienced my passion first-hand: thank you and you’re welcome, respectively.”
Growing up in the vibrant spaces of Inglewood, California, Amindi was exposed to some of the most powerful influences across music, fashion and community; from frequent trips to Jamaican clubs and late-night jam sessions with her Father to discovering key musical inspirations including TDE and The Strokes, Amindi’s natural reflex for story-telling shines through every aspect of her complex artistry.
Experimenting with GarageBand in high school quickly led to the release of her 2017 smash hit “Pine and Ginger” (watch) with Tessellated and Valleyz – a breakthrough record which gained well over 23M streams on Spotify alone and an explosive remix from dancehall pioneers Popcaan and Kranium. Following a stream of infectious singles, Amindi would later drop her debut EP nice in 2021, presenting her exploration of self-love and resilience before featuring on “All Herb” across Isaiah Rashad’s highly acclaimed album The House Is Burning.
Last year saw Amindi unleash her blossoming debut mixtape Take What You Need, serving as a deeper expansion of her creative journey while gaining powerful introspection from some of the most culturally resonant artists in the US right now; from Jordan Ward and Frex to Kenny Mason and acclaimed producer monte booker adding a timeless gloss to what stands as a significant project for the Jamaican heritage artist.
Entering 2024 as one of PIGEONS & PLANES ‘Artists To Watch’, the rising talent earned serious stripes following support slots with Ghanaian-American superstar Amaarae and a debut performance at Coachella, all building towards the release of Take What You Need and Then Some earlier in May. The deluxe version was instantly met with critical acclaim across the landscape; from CLASH to COLORSXSTUDIOS to WONDERLAND all proclaiming a global talent and solidifying her artistic confidence and integrity as standout.
With her brand-new EP Luvr finally at our fingertips, Amindi continues to become one of the most exciting young talents emerging across North America, and she’s having fun with it.
