Independent artist Lua de Santana just released her debut EP “GINGA”
The Spanish-Brazilian emerging artist, raised in Vigo, Galicia, living in Madrid, continues her artistic journey with the release of “GINGA,” an EP focused on the club scene that blends soul, Brazilian funk, electronic music, afrobeat, and what can be described as hyper-funk, which, on its release day, quickly garnered nearly 200,000 views on social media.
“GINGA” is Lua de Santana’s new endeavor, and you still haven’t heard it?
Distributed by AWAL and available on all digital platforms since June 28, “GINGA” has not only established Lua de Santana as an emerging musical force but also placed her in top Spotify playlists such as Novedades Viernes, es funk y el cuerpo lo sabe (where she appears on the cover), and EQUAL. On Amazon Music, she has been featured in Flexeo (also on the cover), Novedades España, Novidades Brasil, and Corriente Alterna, among others.
This five-track EP represents part of the growth and hard work that has shaped her as an artist. She grew up listening to music from all over the world, from flamenco and reggae, to soul, bossa-nova, wango or reggaeton. She moved to London to over educate herself on singing and composition, as well as continuing her dance training. Therefore, Lua de Santana has found her style merging all these sounds, instruments, musical genres and different languages. Moreover, the role of the producers is clearly highlighted to emphasize the importance of the club scene and to acknowledge their musical contributions to the project.
In her own words:
The name “GINGA” refers to this EP as representative of my first steps, my 101, confusing whoever comes with a magical and unique game. Since Brazilian funk is a prominent genre in “GINGA” and is gaining significant international popularity, I felt it was necessary and responsible to remain particularly faithful to Portuguese as the primary language for this first project, to introduce it to the Spanish audience and anyone unfamiliar with this important and expressive genre.
“GINGA” delves into profound themes such as connection within disconnection, chaos within calm, and the multiple contradictions of modern life. This EP reflects the dichotomy between reality and illusion, bringing messages with weight and depth to the trend scene, blending the profound with the superficial and fun. “GINGA” aims to be a small expression of how I perceive part of reality in the current era through the exploration and unusual combinations of various musical elements, accompanied by lyrical themes that navigate between the interpersonal and the intimate, attempting to convey feelings of duality, honor the beauty of resilience, allude to the volatility and brutality of life, and give a nod to the common practice of dissociation.
The project currently includes music videos for the singles PiRi PiRi and GiNGA, which clearly showcase Lua’s vision and the commitment and dedication she and her team have to their work.
We hope you stay tuned to Lua’s journey and, above all, that you can attend the presentation of this EP on Friday, July 5th, at 9:30 PM in Puerta del Sol, Madrid, during the Pride celebration.
