I Run: The New Single from Alt-Pop Singer, Songwriter & Visual Artist Red Moon
Norwegian singer, songwriter and visual artist Red Moon returns with her new single ‘I Run’, out everywhere on 12 July.
Her first new music in three years, the ever-enchanting Red Moon returns, creating self-professed ‘siren pop’ for a world in search of a new celestial icon. From the landscapes of Norway, the artist Red Moon has emerged, building her musical universe that transcends known boundaries. With a life story that spans countries and languages, Red Moon, born in Basel and now proudly calling Oslo and Berlin home, weaves her deepest emotions into a mesmerising tapestry of sound. Music isn't just a language for her; it's the essence of her soul's expression.
Red Moon's lyrics and narratives are intensely personal and dramatic, using intricate wordplay around both challenging and vulnerable topics, stimulating fresh perspectives.
While drawing inspiration thematically from mythological and HERstoric female characters like Venus and Joan of Arc, she finds her soundscape being influenced by artists such as Caroline Polachek, James Blake, St. Vincent and Imogen Heap.
Fans of Red Moon will discover a new sonic direction from the multi-faceted singer as ‘I Run’ experiments with elements of pop, drum ‘n’ bass and trap, all wrapped up in her hypnotic vocal delivery. Produced by London based producer Andrea Rocha, Red Moon wrote the track as a love letter to her friend.
She says, “The week I wrote this song, I met up with one of my best friends who at that time lived a bit outside of London. I hadn’t expected we’d be able to meet, but we managed to make it happen. My intention for this song was to capture the emotion of how someone close to you can enhance and elevate the different and unique sides of you. I think friendships have been a true mirror and also the ones who inspire me to become more of myself.
This song is an ode and love letter to my amazing friends, family, and soul family who have been my support system over the last three years. As a queer person living away from home, chosen family is so important. I feel very lucky and proud to have created art together with my talented friends. It takes time to find yourself as a person, often through several phases and eras of transformation. For me, as an artist, songwriter, and performer, this has truly shown in the last couple of years.
This writing session was sort of like a blind date, arranged by my manager, as I still had one day open to write with someone during the week I spent in London in November. I was very excited to work with Andrea because I knew she is a great producer and string arranger. In my mind, I thought we were going to write a cinematic, ethereal song together, but to my surprise, we ended up writing this bop with strings and drum 'n' bass undertones.
In the end, the song can be whatever it is for you - it could be about your best friend, someone you’re in love with, or even a mantra to yourself. I’d love for it to connect with others in the way you can dream big with your best friends.”
Having already landed support from the Sunday Times, DIY Magazine, The Line of Best Fit and many more, this new music sees Red Moon at her most authentic and releasing independently following a turbulent time signed to a major label. Now, as Red Moon enters a new era, she brings with her a modern sound that reflects her evolution as an artist - she is poised and ready to captivate audiences once again. Join Red Moon on her journey as she invites you to explore the depths of her musical universe and experience the magic for yourself.
