Hate Myself – new single from Norwegian Singer-Songwriter Margrete
Buzzing with a nostalgic glow and deep personal message, Margrete’s latest single Hate Myself is an alt-pop banger with a difference. Driven by her hypnotic vocals and thought-provoking lyricism, the Norwegian singer-songwriter is on a journey of healing, and is using her music to reclaim her self-worth and release herself from painful experiences in her youth. ‘This may be my most honest work to date. It is an exploration of my own flaws, a little talk with my shadow self’ she explains, ‘this song is also a middle finger to toxic positivity, and the paradox of society telling us to beat ourselves up over not loving ourselves enough.’
Margrete began her career in 2017, and has since had tracks featured in HBO’s ‘I May Destroy You’ (2020) and NRK’s Unge Lovende (2018), as well as a supporting act for Rostam, played at Vill Vill Vest (2018) and Paper Dress Vintage (2019). Since then, she released her debut EP ‘All These Stages’, and sophomore EP FLAWS vol. 1. Having also previously been named one of Talent Norway’s 12 top talents in the ArtEx programme, and supported by the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Iggy Mag, Margrete raw and unfiltered style in her creative output resonates strongly with fans and critics alike, with this latest release with New Phase being a highly anticipated offering.
Following the release of her EP FLAWS vol. 1, in 2022. Margrete is introspective in her writing, and Hate Myself offers a brutally honest dive into exploration of self-flaws and a response to toxic positivity. The release is paired with a deeply personal music video featuring sweet home-videos interspersed with metaphorical vignettes that convey Margarete’s deeper introspections, and search for freedom. Margrete explains that creating the project .’..felt like seeing all the broken bones in my mind that had healed in the wrong position, and having to break them all over again in order for them to heal correctly.”
