GIRL ULTRA IS “PUNK" AND ANNOUNCES A TOUR IN A US CITY NEAR YOU

Mexico City's babygirl/escopio Girl Ultra (@girlultra) debuts her “Punk” side in new single showcasing another element of her eclectic sound. It’s an indie-sleaze track featuring Mexico City's indie icons Little Jesus on vocals.

“Punk” previews her forthcoming EP slated for release on Finesse Records  this spring; and arrives today with the announce of an extensive 26-date Girl Ultra North American tour kicking off in May and routing around the country through June // dates below // with additional cities to be added in the coming weeks.

Girl Ultra closed out 2020 with “Amores De Droga” accompanied by a Cole Santiago (Bad Bunny, Lorde) directed video // watch here // written by Girl Ultra and filmed on 16mm film in Los Angeles, with Pablo Sotelo from the band Inner Wave as costar. The NY Times spotlighted the "steady four-on-the-floor rhythm with the weightless melodies of the Mexican R&B chanteuse" on their playlist.

Earlier last year, "Rosas" was spotlighted as one of Pitchfork’s “Best LatinX Songs of 2021…” for it’s “slow-burning R&B… and lush melodies evok[ing] Sade” and Rolling Stone described it as a “pearly hybrid, landing somewhere between old boleros and neo-soul." The song fuses classic bolero styles with Latin R&B, mixing eclectic instrumentals with a classical guitar, deconstructed percussion influences and Jersey club music.

Girl Ultra's 2019 debut album 'Nuevos Aires' was a watershed moment in the evolution of R&B in Latin America. “My main idea was to use R&B, which is a lesser known genre in my country, to develop a new language where I could translate the music I grew up with, which was mostly from the late 70s, 80s and early 90s,” Mariana says.

In 'Nuevos Aires,' Girl Ultra teamed up with a variety of artists to cultivate a new sound, including a duet with Grammy award nominee singer-songwriter Ximena Sariñana, “FuckHim.” In “DameLove,” which premiered on Rolling Stone, she collaborated with Mexican-American artist Cuco for a smooth, dreamy English-Spanish groove. The song now has more than 10 million total streams. The "DameLove" video shows the two artists driving leisurely around empty Californian mountain roads in a Cadillac convertible
