Fox Gunn Shares New Single 'CRUSH'
Following the release of her debut EP ‘BADASS + VULNERABLE’ this summer, Barcelona-born, London-based alt pop singer FOX GUNN closes out the year with the release of her new single ‘CRUSH’, out everywhere on 7 December.
Unapologetically queer, FOX has built a dedicated following on social media with her sometimes salacious, always honest songwriting, coupled with her mischievous yet charming personality. With her EP championed by the likes of Atwood Magazine, Fizzy Magazine, Pop Passion and many more, FOX creates hot pop music for queer communities in search of a new icon!
For fans of Fletcher, 070 Shake and Halsey, FOX draws from her combined influences, fusing elements of dark pop, electronic and rock to create her own distinctively captivating sound. Having seen previous success with her band LULALONG, FOX GUNN is now embarking on a solo journey of moody, empowering lyrics and is on a mission to make vulnerable badass: in a world where it seems like being emotional is for the weak, she turns the tables and sees it as a brave, authentic trait - which translates into her music in the form of headbanging drums mixed with heartfelt lyrics.
Speaking of CRUSH, she says, “CRUSH felt like it had to be written. After writing a whole EP about my first heartbreak and being emotionally unavailable, I caught feelings for someone for the first time in years and I put them all on CRUSH. It’s a song about being terrified of what I’m feeling, even if it’s good and exciting, and about not knowing what to do with those feelings.
I want people who listen to the song to know that being terrified of having feelings is valid. I’m the first one that loses her mind the second they start liking someone a little more than usual, but it’s worth taking a risk. I’ve recently come to the conclusion that I’d rather have big feelings and get hurt than keep them to myself. I think society makes us believe that being vulnerable is weak, that having feelings makes us ‘too emotional’; but I’m still on the journey I started with my debut EP BADASS + VULNERABLE and firmly believe that being vulnerable is badass, and having feelings is brave. If that makes me too emotional, then so be it. I’ll proudly be ‘too emotional’. I’m a very intense person, and I’m learning to love it. I hope listeners feel like that when they hear crush.
CRUSH wouldn’t have happened without social media. I posted the very first snippet of vocals/piano on an Instagram story and my audience loved it so much that I made a demo that same day and shared it. I got endless messages asking for it to be released and, exactly two months after I posted that story the song will be out.”
Born and raised in Barcelona, FOX grew up studying and playing classical music. By the time she was 16, she realised that instead of sitting playing along to sheet music, she wanted to be up on stage singing and performing, so she taught herself guitar and started singing lessons. Moving to London at the age of 18 shaped the musician she is today. “I busked in the streets and worked at a tequila bar at night for one year, then went on to study a BA(Hons) in Songwriting, where I continued with my former band LULALONG with new, London-based musicians I met at uni. I played with them for years around London up until I started my solo journey as FOX GUNN.”
