Fireboy DML, Nomcebo Zikode & Sofiya Nzau celebrate West, South & East Africa in brand new music video for epic 3-Step single ‘META’

The sounds of South, West and East Africa unite on the anticipated new single ‘META’, a collaboration between Kenyan hitmaker Sofiya Nzau, Nigerian afrobeats star Fireboy DML, and South African Grammy-winning Nomcebo Zikode.

Released on 10th October, ‘META’ is a groundbreaking collaboration that blends Afrobeats, R&B, and traditional African rhythms, creating a fresh sound that embodies unity and celebration across thell continent. As its title suggests, ‘META’ (meaning self-aware) represents the convergence of cultures, drawing inspiration from the concept of "three"—a number symbolising harmony, balance, and connection in various contexts. The result is a dynamic fusion that captures the essence of modern Africa.

The track belongs to a relatively new genre called 3-Step, which champions a three-kick rhythm pattern. Spearheaded by Thakzin and co-signed by Kaytranada, 3-step is reshaping the Afro-house scene with its innovative blend of amapiano, Afro tech, and broken beat influences. Originating in 2020, the genre aims to redefine the African music landscape, inviting listeners to embrace the rhythmic vibrations that unite us all.

For Kenyan singer Sofiya Nzau, ‘META’ is the follow-up to the 2023 hit ‘Mwaki’, a collab with Brazilian artist, Zerb. Sung in Kikuyu, a language spoken by the Bantu ethnic group native to Central Kenya, the track has over 203M Spotify streams, 53M YouTube views, and sparked a wave of TikTok dance challenges (See HERE). It was also remixed by EDM icon Tiesto, amassing another 50M+ streams.

The music video for ‘META’, shot in stunning South African landscapes, showcases the vibrant aesthetics and rich cultural tapestry of Africa, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of the collaborating artists.

In anticipation of the release, fans are encouraged to participate in the #METAChallenge, a dance challenge on social media platforms that invites users to express themselves through movement, embodying the spirit of unity and joy that ‘META’ represents.

The challenge aims to foster a sense of community while showcasing the diverse interpretations of the song.

‘META’ is not just a song; it’s a movement that celebrates the beauty of African music and culture. Join us as we embark on this exciting journey, and let the sounds of META resonate across the continent and beyond.
