Edgar Homeros returns with the sounds of ‘Televised’ - the first single since his ‘Volatile’ project
Rising Swedish alt-pop talent Edgar Homeros returns to the ether with the remarkable sounds of “Televised” – the first single since his Volatile project earlier this year.
An eclectic offering, “Televised” fuses tender acoustic guitar strums which evolve into stormy segments of rubbery synths and crashing drums for a multi-faceted finish. Weaving together his trademark harmonies á la Benjamin Francis Leftwich/Novo Amor with a production at times reminiscent of another world of music, the ending lyrics “I used to be afraid of death and now I wish, I wish that I could die young - so that my songs are sung” speak for themselves. Coming together as a dynamic new instalment to the Swede’s growing catalogue of emotionally layered creations, “Televised” points to an exciting new direction for the rising artist while still capturing the fundamental elements of his previous work: brutally raw honesty plucked right from the depths of his innermost thoughts and feelings.
Speaking about “Televised”, Edgar Homeros made the following statement: “Love – or something related to it – is a theme in almost every song I create and the same goes for ‘Televised.’ Love used to bother me in the past, but it's also what we live for despite the fact that it can sometimes be awful, like an inevitable condition of life. I have eventually accepted the fact that there is a dimension of love that is always exciting, applicable in all contexts. I have also noticed that I've become a bit more abstract and subtle in my lyrics lately, and I think it's about me wanting to capture a feeling rather than every line being entirely cohesive. It's okay for lyrics to be a bit unexpected, and the same goes for the production. However, I always want to add a little spice - a 'what's that?' factor.”
“Televised” is Edgar’s first offering to the scene since enchanting audiences earlier this year with his raved-about debut project Volatile. Combining the soulful music from his childhood idols like Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway with the soundscape of Toronto’s underground R&B scene, Volatile takes shape as a collection of sincerely sensitive songs all diverse in genre and emotion, but at the same time deeply connected for a diary-like body of work written and produced in Edgar’s bedroom.
The Volatile project is home to Edgar’s breakout ballad “Centerfolds” (400K+ Spotify streams), which has catapulted him to notoriety as an exciting newcomer within the Scandi scene – spending almost half a year on the A-list of Sweden’s P3 radio station, with the network also nominating Edgar for their prestigious ‘Artist of the Future’ award: “Soul, singer-songwriter or pop - whatever we call it, an elemental force has presented itself to the Swedish music scene,” P3 have said of Edgar’s genre-defying music.
