DESSERT: THE NEW SINGLE FROM ALT-POP SINGER-SONGWRITER FOX GUNN TAKEN FROM HER UPCOMING EP BADASS & VULNERABLE

Spanish born, London-base alt-pop singer-songwriter FOX GUNN shares her new single ‘DESSERT’ out everywhere now..

Having seen previous success with her band LULALONG, FOX GUNN is now embarking on a solo journey of moody, empowering lyrics with strong queer narratives and is on a mission to make vulnerable badass: in a world where it seems like being emotional is for the weak, she turns the tables and sees it as a brave, authentic trait - which translates into her music in the form of headbanging drums mixed with heartfelt lyrics.

‘DESSERT’ is taken from her upcoming debut EP as FOX GUNN - ‘BADASS & VULNERABLE’, out on 14 July. The EP was co-produced by UK producers Balthazard and Jon LeKole and recorded between Tileyard and her home studio.

Naming artists like BANKS, 070 Shake, Halsey and Fletcher as her main inspirations, FOX draws from her combined influences, fusing elements of dark pop, electronic and rock to create her own distinctively captivating sound. On ‘DESSERT’, she explores the fun in being a hopeless romantic.

Speaking of the track, she says, “DESSERT started out in my little home studio, I was just playing around with sounds I wouldn’t usually use, then realised what I was making had the potential to be a song. The track is quite different from everything else I’ve ever made, but in the best way possible; because I wasn’t planning on it being anything release-worthy, I experimented a lot with different sounds and had so much fun making it.

At the time I wrote DESSERT, I hadn’t written anything in a while because I was busy producing/finishing other songs of mine. I realised most (if not all) of the songs I had been working on talked about not wanting love, being scared of it or being emotionally unavailable; which is how I felt at the time I wrote them, but not where I’m at anymore, so I set my mind on writing something about how I truly feel now. The first verse shares the part of me I let people see: the emotionally unavailable, chaotic virgo who goes on too many dates and is scared of anything serious. But lately I realised that this was a mask I was putting on to protect myself and I actually do want more than that. That’s why the second verse is an answer to the first one: whereas in the first verse I talk about people only calling me when they’re drunk, this time I’m the one who is “drunk, chasing fun and falling way too easily.

We are all complex beings who want a lot of things at the same time, and DESSERT reflects that. I hope it makes people think about the way they see love and their dating lives, and what it is exactly that they want from it.”

Born and raised in Barcelona, FOX grew up studying and playing classical music. By the time she was 16, she realised that instead of sitting playing along to sheet music, she wanted to be up on stage singing and performing, so she taught herself guitar and started singing lessons. Moving to London at the age of 18 shaped the musician she is today. “I busked in the streets and worked at a tequila bar at night for one year, then went on to study a BA(Hons) in Songwriting, where I continued with my former band LULALONG with new, London-based musicians I met at uni. I played with them for years around London up until I started my solo journey as FOX GUNN.”

Following the release of FOX’s debut single ‘POTTERY’, ‘DESSERT’ is the latest offering from her upcoming debut EP under her new moniker - a concept EP about losing and finding yourself all at the same time.
