Budding Musician Dan Onkar Releases New EP 'Before The Day Ends'

Reintroducing Dan Onkar, Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer from London and a name you should already know. Drawing inspiration for his uniquely addictive sound from a diverse pool of artists including Luther Vandross, Frank Ocean, IO, Lagbaja, Fela Kuti and more, Onkar’s music merges introspective writing with multi genre fused production, gifting us with the carefully packaged project presented here in the form of ‘Before The Day Ends’.

Having already created a name behind the scenes working with musicians home and abroad, writing and producing music with a large, yet tailored, palette of musicians over the years including the likes of notable acts BenjiFlow, Oxlade, Jords and Nosa Apollo to create the perfect sounds. Previously releasing projects ‘Lost||Outside’, ‘Unstable’, ‘A Night Like This’, ‘Irene', Dan Onkar returns with an irresistible body of work ‘Before The Day Ends’ to add to the collection.

Following on the love story from most recent EPs ‘A Night Like This’ and “Irene” Dan continues the run of project with a project that has a darker side to love and settles in the space of accepting that a love has gone and isn't going to return and fighting the urge to want to fight for it back. The project is smooth and follows the trajectory of what mourning a loss feels like. Sometimes the melodies are comforting and the production is bouncy while the tying lyrics fall on reminiscent tones. The project is laced with heavy eclectic bass production that Dan seems to fall in love with on this project as we hear on songs like ‘Match Set’ and ‘Feel Alive’. ‘Wonder,Baby’ taps into Onkar’s traditional west African background exploring the Afrobeat sound, while he ties this altogether with his naturally effortless R&B nature - a style which allows his distinct melodies and dexterous songwriting capabilities to shine through on his 5th project.

Best describing his music as a “melting pot of moods and alternative production”, Dan vividly walks us through his life experiences and influences, which allows us to see through the eyes of him growing up between Lagos and London. With both cities carrying big musical cultures, you can hear a blend of the cultures in the music. Speaking on the creative process behind developing the body of work, Dan Onkar explains: “Before The Day Ends is inspired by love that refuses to fade even after you think it should you always find your way back to your love when all is said and done, before the day ends love shows you multiple times why it's real. I wrote this project as an ode to that feeling, to the shedding of pride and ego and just letting courage and love lead the way you express your love.”

With every track produced by Dan Onkar we get guest production assistance from Nosa Apollo on songs like ‘Feel Alive’ and ‘Checking My Phone’, Guitar on ‘bAd GiRl’ is played by long time collaborator in Dan Fawzi we can sense a very personal touch on this as we delve into the creative mind behind the rising star.
