Based On A Dream: The New Album From Singer, Songwriter & Producer Alexia Thomas

Swiss singer, songwriter, sound artist and producer Alexia Thomas shares her debut album ‘Based On A Dream’, out everywhere now. Alexia will also release a limited edition vinyl, available on forcefield records on 16 November.

Alexia’s music, like her personality, defies labels and embraces spontaneity, emotion, and intuition. Electronic vibes in summer, nostalgic tunes in winter - diversity fuels her creativity. By immersing herself into daydreaming, she's undermining the relationships between realities and utopia. Where does reality end, where does fantasy begin and what is actually in between? Her music addresses these questions by combining electronic and acoustic sounds. Emotionality, the search for identity plays a central role in the lyrics as well as in the musically.

This approach creates atmospheric, often nostalgic soundscapes that transport listeners to distant places. Her experimental sound gives nods to neo-soul, alternative R&B, with elements of shoegaze, indie and dreampop and above all - good energy.

The album features already released singles ‘Welcome To Peace - the first full track on the album guides the listener through floaty, soft & peaceful indie island sounds - ‘Weekends In The Park featuring DJ JuwelleryLost In Space’ which explores lifes’ contrasts, and ‘The Feeling of Left Alone’ which sees the album take a turn moodwise, switching to a more nostalgic theme. The album’s focus and title track ‘Based on a Dream’ features fellow Swiss artist Malummí, and builds dreamscapes on a more serious and desperate scope. Alexia says, “Wishful thinking and delusions are central. Creating a world for ourselves but deluding ourselves in thinking it’s real. We develop a passion which we want to touch, smell, feel, breathe, live and fully embrace with every inch of our existence. We perceive everything much more intense than before and seem eager to get what we want. As if we were blind. The more we want it the further away it seems.”

And these are just a few highlights on an album brimming with whimsical curiosity - a journey through dimensions, soundscapes, dreamscapes, fantasies and realities. It paints a picture of a journey of something. This ‘something’ can be an object or a person and the journey can be interpreted as life itself or another sort of process and all it’s facettes that come with it.

Alexia explores these questions in her music, combining electronic and acoustic sounds that float in different dimensions. With this dream-pop album, she has further developed her ability for precise sound design. Emotionality and the search for identity play a central role in both the lyrics and the music.

Born and raised in Basel, Switzerland Alexia grew up surrounded by music. She was heavily involved in music and theatre from a young age, and has spent the last few years growing her musical network. After working as an Event Manager in Basel, she’s now in the last year of her Bachelor Studies in Process Design at an Art University in Basel (HGK). She was signed to a FLINTA* label named “Forcefield Records” in Bern, while also working as a producing coach.

Alexia’s sound that we hear today traverses the limits of genre, putting feeling above all else. Her music appeals to those who seek unconventional sounds that diverge from the mainstream. Press play, take a deep breath, and close your eyes. What happens next?
