During International Women's Month, Amplify Her assembled an evening dedicated to supporting emerging talent that continues to surface within the English Channel. Supported by Arts Council England, Amplify Her launched its  2025 Showcase Tour this March, starting in London and continuing to Brighton and Bristol.

On a cosy evening in King's Cross's The Water Rat, Tolü Makay, Fabia Anderson, and Mia M took centre stage, delivering intimate performances demonstrating their artistry in its full glory. With them, they were joined by surprise guests of women materialising from the crowd: Alice Boland-Rhodes , who serenaded the audience with a jazzy, slick melody. Followed by Adele Joel , who didn't waver when tapping in line as the audience echoed her steps with their own two feet. Founder Andrea Dee, curator of the showcase and the host of the night, sometimes with a keyboard in hand, engaged with the crowd as they chanted "because there are miracles and we're thrilled".

After the first night of her tour, we had a chance to catch up with Andrea Dee to talk all things Amplify Her.

What do you believe sets Amplify Her apart from other initiatives or organisations to support women in the music industry?

Amplify Her is a unique organisation dedicated to empowering women in music through monthly live, in-person events. Our mission is to foster a strong, supportive community where artists can uplift each other, grow together, and gain access to valuable industry connections. By bridging the gap between independent artists and the music industry, we provide a platform that not only showcases talent but also creates meaningful opportunities for career advancement.

Why do you think women in the music industry must have a community like Amplify Her, and how does it contribute to the artists'  success and empowerment?

Women in the music industry need Amplify Her and a strong sense of community because the journey as an artist or industry professional can often feel isolating. While progress is being made, the music industry remains predominantly male. Our community offers a safe, supportive space where every voice is heard, empowering women to thrive, connect, and be valued for their unique talents and contributions.

Why was it essential to include these particular artists, and what do you hope people will take away from their performances?

The artists performing at our showcase are talented, hard-working individuals who are taking the next step in their careers. Independent artists are dedicated to being heard and seen, putting in the effort to make their mark. Amplify Her is proud to showcase not only their incredible talent but also their integrity and passion. We are here to provide a platform where these amazing artists can shine, connect with new audiences, and continue to grow in their journey.

In your view, how can organisations like Amplify Her help address the systemic barriers women face, and what more can be done within the industry to create lasting change for future generations of female musicians?

In my view, organisations like Amplify Her can play a crucial role in addressing the systemic barriers women face by fostering collaboration, supporting one another, and challenging the status quo. To create lasting change, we need to unite, shift the mindset, and move away from the culture of competition. By educating, sharing experiences, and empowering each other, we not only break down these barriers but also build a stronger, more inclusive community. The more we amplify each other's voices and talents, the more we become a powerful force, making it harder for anyone to take advantage of vulnerable situations. This collective strength is key to paving the way for future generations of female musicians.

As an independent artist, how do you balance your creative journey with Amplify Her's advocacy work? Do you ever find that these two roles complement or create tension?

Being an artist is all about juggling multiple responsibilities, and I've learned that firsthand. My work as an artist keeps me grounded in the realities of the industry, while my role with Amplify Her is focused on finding solutions to the challenges we face. As a mom to a beautiful little girl, managing all three is undoubtedly challenging, but I focus on the present - what can be done right now - and take things one step at a time, always moving forward with purpose, or at least I try.

What are your plans for the event's future as the Amplify Her Showcase Tour grows?

As the Amplify Her Showcase Tour grows, our goal is to expand Amplify Her nationwide, creating a network where women in the music industry can connect no matter where they are in the UK. Each year, we'll launch events in a new city, offering everything from coffee meetups to cocktails and live music. Through our future app, you can easily connect with incredible women in the industry, building a supportive community. Additionally, we've just launched our Fan Pass, designed to bridge the gap between music lovers and artists, allowing them to discover each other and connect in meaningful ways.

Amplify Her is for the songbirds who want to be heard and seek growth and community to support their journey.
