“Take My Heart” is the first single from Lloyd John's up and coming EP 'Am I Pretty Enough?'. It was born from a deeply vulnerable state of mind. Lloyd had just moved to London, newly single after a long-term relationship, and was navigating one-night stands and the complexities of adult single life for the first time. His emotions were unstable. He quickly realised that during his teens, he hadn’t fully explored his sexuality before committing to a serious relationship. One moment, he was in love and re-evaluating his relationship with women; the next, he felt disgusted with himself and filled with regret over the decisions he was making. It was as if he was experiencing the confusion of coming out all over again, which took a significant toll on his confidence in his identity.
"I wanted to write a song that captured the feeling of finding 'The One'." 'Take My Heart' is about meeting someone new, falling instantly in love, drinking and dancing into bed, only to wake up realising that even though the night didn’t end in intimacy, you both shared a profound connection. You felt relaxed and, although you didn’t fully understand what it meant, you were reminded that sexuality is unique to everyone.
"It allowed me to embrace my queer identity and feel accepted within the grey areas." Maintaining a very live and human sound is a central theme throughout this project, enhancing the feeling of human connection throughout the record.
Lloyd John and his band recorded most of the arrangement in Cork, Ireland, which was then taken back to London for vocal tracking and production refinement before sending it off for mixing and mastering. "I chose to have the EP mastered using analog gear to further strengthen that authentic, in-the-room sound that defines this project."
